The present study, titled "Predicting Rumination Based on Early Maladaptive Schemas and Emotional Distress Tolerance with the Mediating Role of Cognitive-Behavioral Avoidance in Married Women of Abdanan," conducted in the academic year 2023-2024, investigates the relationships between early maladaptive schemas, emotional distress tolerance, cognitive-behavioral avoidance, and rumination in married women in Abdanan. This descriptive-correlational study utilized variance-based structural equation modeling (Smart-PLS4). The statistical population consisted of 135 married women in Abdanan, with a sample of 100 individuals selected through multistage cluster sampling. Data collection tools included standardized questionnaires with previously confirmed validity and reliability. The research instruments comprised the Nolen-Hoeksema and Morrow Rumination Questionnaire (1991), Young’s Early Maladaptive Schemas Questionnaire (232-item long form), Simmons and Gaher’s Distress Tolerance Scale (2005), and Sexton and Dugas’s Cognitive-Behavioral Avoidance Scale (2004). The results indicated that early maladaptive schemas and emotional distress tolerance directly and significantly influence rumination (p<0.05), and cognitive-behavioral avoidance also has a significant direct effect on rumination. However, the mediating role of cognitive-behavioral avoidance in the relationships between early maladaptive schemas and emotional distress tolerance with rumination was not confirmed (p>0.05). The model’s coefficient of determination for rumination was 0.780, indicating a strong model fit. The findings align with domestic studies (Pourshikhian et al., 2023) and international studies (Pilkington et al., 2023). It is recommended that therapeutic interventions based on schema therapy and emotional distress tolerance training be implemented to reduce rumination in married women.
